Research
and other scholarly writing have increasingly supported the
importance of taking a holistic approach to many areas of
health and well-being. Consistent with a holistic approach,
I explore individual symptoms and presenting concerns within
the context of interconnected systems. Often times in therapy,
clients present with specific complaints. Taken at face value,
symptoms are just that, symptoms. However, through a process
of deeper exploration one may be able to realize the true
meaning of the symptom and possibly its cause giving
the individual more choice and power in resolving their initial
concerns.
Emotional
well-being is often related to other systems: physical, spiritual,
financial, interpersonal, environmental, and political to name
a few. Paying attention to each of our systems and their relationships
to each other can contribute to overall emotional health. It can
be a profoundly changing experience to explore these various parts
of ourselves in the context of a non-judgmental professional relationship.
